Beware of telephone scams threatening disconnection
Rock Energy Cooperative urges members to beware of telephone scams where a caller poses as a utility employee and threatens to disconnect service unless an immediate payment is made. At least one Rock Energy member received a scam call during November.
For your protection, ignore suspicious requests for personal information, such as credit card numbers, user names, and passwords. It's important to not let your guard down during the holiday season.
Co-op employees will not call you and demand immediate payment or ask you to purchase a prepaid debit card to avoid disconnection. The process of disconnecting service is lengthy and involves several contacts between the member and co-op employee.
If you have any questions regarding the legitimacy of a call, do not provide the caller with any information. Hang up and call us at 866-752-4550. Remember that if you didn't make the call, you really don't know who is on the other end of the line.
